Dragon Rally 2007

Saturday 10 February saw five intrepid Merlin owners making their way through rain, fog, snow, sunshine and mud to the Isle of Anglesey for the 2007 Dragon Rally.

This event followed the usual format of cold weather, plenty of mud and an odd drink or two. After rain in the night, the mud developed nicely in the morning. But Sunday was a sunny day and we very much enjoyed our ride home through Wales.

I was going to set off on Friday and stay in Bangor on Friday night. Living in Birmingham (epicentre of the snow downfall) put the kybosh on that one. Even setting off mid-morning Saturday I passed loads of cars which had been abandoned from the day before in snowdrifts, and many of them were recent, up-market ones, not just old bangers whose cooling system, ABSs and traction-control systems couldn't cope or were non-existent. The weather on the ride varied between miserable and foul. Then, 15 miles short of Bangor the clouds parted, the sun beamed down it's happy face and the remainder of the day was balmy, almost barbecue weather in fact. It rained a bit during the night and then another glorious day on the Sunday for packing up.
